AI isn’t just changing how we work—it’s forcing a choice most leaders aren’t explicitly making. Do we use AI to replace humans, or to elevate them? The research is getting clearer. Some data shows early signs of job displacement, especially in entry-level knowledge work. At the same time, another body of research shows something equally powerful: AI can dramatically increase human capability without removing humans from the system. This isn’t a technology problem. It’s a design decision. The future of work won’t be decided by what AI can do. It will be decided by what leaders choose to automate—and what they choose to protect. And right now, most organizations are optimizing for efficiency… not for humanity.
